洋楽の歌詞で英語をチェックすることで表現力を高める
著者（ユーザーネーム: Safari Man ） は洋楽の歌詞で英語を学習してきました。基本的には、この記事内で行っているように洋楽の新曲がリリースされる度に、サビ・コーラスを中心に歌詞のわからない箇所や英語表現をチェックしておりました。歌詞の意味をある程度、理解した上で毎日の通学・通勤など空き時間に洋楽を聞いたり、家でサビ・コーラス部分を口ずさむことで、知らず知らずに英語の語感が身に付き、歌詞の中に含まれている様々な文法ポイント語順＝英文の規則性を身に付けることができました。この『歌詞和訳で覚える英語表現』シリーズは、中学の時の自分のための教材です。
大阪観光大学国際交流学部池田 和弘教授の日経ビジネスオンラインの記事でも洋楽の歌詞で英語を勉強した学生の話が取り上げられていました。彼の何千人もの学生や社会人の教え子の中で、明らかに日本人離れした、素晴らしい英文を書く生徒がいたらしいのですが、その学生さんは洋楽の歌詞で英語を英語を勉強してきたようです。その文章は、語句の使い方が日本人離れしていたというのです。
彼は中学に入ったころから大の洋楽ファンとなり、歌詞を懸命に覚えただけでなく、添えられている和訳を読むだけでは満足できずに、辞書などを調べて原文の意味を理解しようとしたというのです。楽しいから歌詞の意味を理解しようとし、そのまま覚えて、歌った――彼にとっての「英語の勉強」というのは、たったそれだけだったわけです。もちろん、学校での学びもある程度は意味があったかも知れません。しかし、書いた英文から判断して、その英語力の大半を歌詞からつかみ取ったことは間違いありませんでした。
