山内 そうですね。今、TOEFLはアメリカの16〜17歳くらいの子が受験して120点満点中、100点くらいがとれる難易度に設定されています。日本の東大生が大学院留学をしたいといって相談にくるのですが、60点、70点しか取れないんですよ。東大の英文科の学生だって80点レベルです。

沖山 まあ、英検2級もっている高校3年生がうけると、だいたい30点レベルですからね。異様に低いんです。でも東大の英文科を出ても、そんな点数では、なんだか切ないですね……。
